Organiser Upper Street Events has hailed its inaugural Gadget Show Live Christmas event a major success with 27,280 visitors attending the event over its three days.

Gadget Show Live Christmas is the sister show to Gadget Show Live, which runs at the NEC each April and is the UK’s largest consumer tech event. Gadget Show Live Christmas ran from 30 November to 2 December 2012 at ExCeL in London and pulled in 7,541 visitors on Friday, 9,798 on Saturday and 9,941 on Sunday. Upper Street Events has confirmed it will return in 2013 to the same venue from 29 November to 1 December.

More than 160 tech companies exhibited at the event, including LG (who used the event to launch the UK’s first 84” UHD TV, and promptly sold one), Sonos, YouView, HTC, Canon, TomTom, Nintendo (who demonstrated its new Wii U games console on launch day), PlayStation, Xbox, Electronic Arts, Game, Twentieth Century Fox, Turtle Beach, LEGO Technic and Flying Gadgets.

Gadget Show Live Christmas was sponsored by Windows, which showcased Windows 8, the new Surface tablet and Windows 8 smartphones. Windows is also headline sponsor of Gadget Show Live in Birmingham next April.

Matt Hodgins, Gadget Show Christmas event director, said: “We’re thrilled with the success of the very first Gadget Show Live Christmas. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday, VIP packages and the majority of the Super Theatre sessions all sold out in advance. The show was buzzing from beginning to end and we have had fantastic feedback from our exhibitors – Windows, Game, Turtle Beach, Orbitsound and Freesat are among those already on the floor plan for Birmingham.”
