Montreuil (France), March 29th 2012. French games publisher Anuman Interactive retraces 800 years of history with the release of “Louvre The Messenger”, a game from its Microïds portfolio for PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad.
Following the success of its re-releases of such big-name games as “Dracula”, “Amerzone” and “Still Life”, French games publisher Anuman Interactive has further bolstered its Microïds brand portfolio. The latest addition is an adventure game with culture that takes gamers on a trip through time and the history of the monumentally mysterious Louvre Museum in Paris.
In “Louvre The Messenger”, you play the part of Morgane, a secret agent who has been entrusted with a special mission by her dead father. You can just feel the tension, made almost tangible by the unsettling ambient noises, as you try to foil the ancestral plot of the Black Knights Templar and save the world from chaos, death, and destruction. You have to find four relics, called “Satan’s keys”. The quest for the relics leads you to the Louvre where one of the artefacts is currently to be found. An unexpected encounter tips you into a journey into time where you explore the Louvre at four different eras in search of the key that will help you find the three other “objects of the Apocalypse”.
In this game, players take the part of the main character and move 360° through 3D worlds that represent the Louvre in different periods – modern times, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Enlightenment. In the reigns of Charles V and Henri IV you are a witness to dastardly plots and proceed through the adventure collecting objects as you go. By combining the objects you can solve riddles and perform actions. For example, if you combine a crossbow, a rope, and a grappling hook you get a “grapnel-launcher crossbow”, a vital tool for making your dizzying descent down between two tall buildings.
You keep and combine the objects you gather in an interactive inventory. There is also a fast inventory where you can use the objects to equip yourself to take action that gets you out of predicaments and overcomes the things and beings you encounter. For example, when you find yourself locked in a room in the Louvre Castle in the year 1200, you must make yourself a knife to break the windows and escape. Logic and stealth are the keys to success in “Louvre The Messenger”, since an unexpected encounter with a guard ends the game.
“Louvre The Messenger” borders on historical reconstruction and will thrill gamers who enjoy adventure and have a taste for knowledge. They can reenact adventures in their original historical context thanks to an encyclopaedia of audio guides on the history of the Louvre from 1200 to the present day.
On iOS, the adventure unfolds in a faithful replica of the Louvre Castle which France’s National Museum Network has helped to reconstruct. Players will enjoy the special functionalities that deliver an ever more immersive experience. The iPhone and iPad versions boast the special Compass Look option that incorporates
players’ movements into the game. You can, for example, tilt your iPad downwards to find a key that has dropped on to the ground. As with earlier Microïds games adapted for iOS, an autosave feature saves players’ progress as they advance through their mission.
FYI: Two complete iOS versions of the game are now available – one for iPhone and a Universal version which plays on both iPhone and iPad with optimal display resolution and interfaces that have been adapted accordingly.
"Louvre The Messenger” has been on sale since March 20th 2012 from App Store’s “Games” category and Mac App Store. A PC version will be available on the main download platforms from April.
