Get Off the Couch with Seek‘n Spell at the Come Out&Play Festival 2009

SAN FRANCISCO - June 12, 2009 - Retronyms announced today that Seek‘n Spell, the GPS-based word game for the iPhone 3G, was selected as one of the featured titles for the Come Out&Play Festival 2009. Held in Midtown Manhattan, the Come Out&Play Festival celebrates games that encourage people to interact with one another in public spaces, from small street games to epic, location-based games that stretch across the city. Seek‘n Spell will be played on Sunday, June 14, from 1-3PM on the waterfront at Pier 84. The festival is free to attend and open to all who want to participate.

“Seek‘n Spell fits in perfectly with the spirit of the Come Out&Play Festival,” said Zach Saul, co-founder of The Retronyms.“Seek‘n Spell is the first iPhone title to combine real-time GPS data with a word game. As players run around outside gathering virtual letters and spelling words to earn points, they’re exercising both their minds and their bodies.”

About Seek‘n Spell

Seek 'n Spell is the iPhone 3G application that transforms gaming from a sedentary experience to an active and social outdoor contest that exercises the mind and the body. Combining real outdoor spaces with virtual letters, Seekʻn Spell is the word game where players race against the clock to gather letter tiles and create words to score the most points. When the game begins, Seek 'n Spell displays a satellite map of the player's location with letters scattered about the field. Players run to a letter to pick it up, and they can collect up to ten at a time to spell as many words as possible. More points are scored for longer words, and coveted gold letters appear randomly on the field to double a score when used in a word.
