BAF Game showcases the latest innovations in computer games technology, with a focus on the overlaps between the worlds of video games, animation and film. Organised by the National Media Museum in strong partnership with the University of Bradford and Game Republic, this year’s festival promises gamers its biggest edition ever. BAF Game 2012 takes place at the National Media Museum, Bradford UK on 13 November and the University of Bradford on 14 November. Headline speakers are lined up from Bioware, Bethesda, Valve, CD Projekt RED, Double Negative, Sony London, TT Games and Faceware Technologies.

9.30am - 10.30am, Stewart Gilray - Oddworld Inhabitants / Just Add Water

Stewart Gilray, Development Director of Oddworld Inhabitants and CEO of West Yorkshire based studio Just Add Water will discuss the present and future of the popular Oddworld franchise. First released in the Playstation era, the Oddworld universe has recently been remastered for the HD generation. With over 20 years of industry experience working for studios such as Psygnosis,Bullfrog, EA and Argonaut to name just a few, Stewart will outline why digital distribution is the future for the games industry, and for Oddworld itself. Stewart will be presenting a session at 10.30 am in Pictureville Cinema.

10.30am- 11.30am - Tomek Zawada, CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt RED  is the Polish based games studio behind the prestigious The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which recently swept the board at this year’s European Games Awards (EGA), winning multiple awards including ‘’Best European Game’’. Combined with the first part of The Witcher series, current worldwide sales top 4 million copies, a record breaking figure for the Polish games industry. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, currently available for PC and Xbox 360, debuts on Apple this autumn. Tomek will be presenting a session at 11.30 am in Pictureville Cinema.

2pm - 3pm: Joel Smith & Jim Southworth, Sony Entertainment (Wonderbook)

The Sony London team return to BAF to present their latest innovative PlayStation 3 project, Wonderbook. A unique concept that combines literature and augmented reality, Wonderbook brings stories to life using the PlayStation Eye. Art Director, Joel Smith and Art Manager Jim Southworth will uncover the art behind Wonderbook, with a focus on the launch title, Book of Spells in a session coinciding with the day of its release on 13th November. Created in partnership with JK Rowling, Book of Spells brings the magical world of Harry Potter into reality. Joel will be presenting a session with Jim Southworth at 3pm in Pictureville Cinema.

3pm - 4pm: Jennifer Schneidereit & Philip Tossell, Nyamyam

Founded in late 2010 by Jennifer Schneidereit and Philip Tossell after their paths crossed whilst working on Kinect Sports at Rare, Nyamyam is an independent studio dedicated to creating beautifully crafted games. Jennifer and Philip will talk about their first game, Tengami, an adventure game with a unique style inspired by traditional Japanese arts. Designed to look like a pop-up book crafted entirely from paper, Tengami is an atmospheric quest set in ancient Japan for the iPad. Jennifer & Philip will be presenting a session at 2pm in Pictureville Cinema.

4pm: Lucas Hardi - Bethesda Game Studios

Lucas joined Bethesda Game Studios in 2011 where he designed characters and concept art for the ground breaking epic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Lucas will talk about his career within the games industry and focus on the history of art style within games. The talk will explore how visuals have changed in tandem with technology, why games look the way they do and how to approach developing your own style. Lucas will be presenting a session at 4.15pm in Pictureville Cinema.

6pm - GameCityNights at BAFter Hours, with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters

GameCityNights makes its first stop off on a UK wide tour as at BAF Game on Tuesday 13th November, promising an  evening of videogames related goodness for attendees courtesy of Nottingham’s brilliant GameCity festival. Pass holders will have an exclusive opportunity to play Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance prior to its release next year, before the opening day closes with a rare chance to watch award winning documentary Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters on the big screen, featuring a live web Q&A with director Adam Cornelius.

Wednesday 14th November at University of Bradford

10.30am - 11.30: Christine Phelan, Valve ( Dota 2)

Animator Christine Phelan joins BAF Game from US studios Valve , developers of award winning franchises such as the Half-Life®, Left 4 Dead®, Team Fortress®, Portal™ and number one online action game Counter-Strike®. Dota, which began as a user-made modification for Warcraft 3, has grown into one of the most played online games in the world. Christine  will be presenting a session at 11.30am in The Great Hall

2.30pm - 3pm, David Brown, Philip Gray & Bill Martin, TT Games (LEGO)

Voted the UK’s number one studio in the 2012 Develop 100, TT Games are the engineers behind the phenomenally successful LEGO movie tie-in titles. Starting with Lego Star Wars in 2005, TT Games have gone on to produce Lego games starring Hollywood icons Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and Batman. A charming concoction of puzzles, combat and knockabout co-op fun, TT’s Lego portfolio now also include Pirates of the Caribbean and most recently, Lord of the Rings. David, Philip and Bill will take part in a session at 3pm in the great hall. Questions will be taken in a Q&A during the session

3pm - 4.15pm Neil Thompson, Bioware

Neil visits BAF Game representing Canadian industry giants BioWare, home of the world conquering franchises Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Neil began his career creating content for Spectrum and Commodore 64 games. He joined Psygnosis in 1991 and was instrumental in their adoption of high end 3D software. Neil returned to Psygnosis (now Sony Liverpool) to take on the role of Art Director on the Formula 1, MotorStorm and Wipeout franchises. A move to Project Gotham creators, Bizarre Creations followed in 2009 and saw the release of the critically acclaimed racer, BlurNeil will be presenting a session at 4.15pm in The Great Hall

10.30am - 11.30am: Vanessa Boyce, Double Negative

Double Negative’s Vanessa Boyce ( Inception, Harry Potter, Total Recall) joins the panel on bonus industry crossover session Creating Virtual Urban Environments, which takes place as part of the main BAF programme on 15 November, aiming to uncover the techniques required to create photorealistic urban environments on screen.  Vanessa will also present a sessions at 2.30pm, talking about her role as CG Supervisor on Total Recall and discussing here career: Vanessa supervised the Room of Requirements on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the Vatican sequence on 2012, the Fortress Hospital on Inception and the Hydra Factory on Captain America. Vanessa will take part in a panel session at 11.30 am in Cubby Broccoli Cinema and will present a session at 2.30pm in Pictureville.

11am - 12pm: Simon Iwaniszak, Red Kite Games

Simon Iwaniszak is the Managing Director of Leeds Based studio Red Kite Games, dedicated to the development of top quality games for mobile platforms. A graduate from the University of Bradford's Video Games Design degree, Simon started his career working at Rockstar. Having spent time in both the UK and US, Simon worked as a senior designer on several titles including Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire.   Simon will take part in ‘Animation and Games for New Platforms’ at 12pm in Pictureville Cinema

The National Media Museum

The National Media Museum in Bradford, West Yorkshire, opened as the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television in Bradford in 1983 with the remit to explore the art and science behind images and image-making, and has since become one of the most visited UK museums outside London.
