Giebelstadt, 4th of December 2008
Yesterday night all the German games scene watched the Lichtburg in Essen, Germany: The gala for awarding the prizes of the German Developer Award 2008 (Deutscher Entwicklerpreis 2008) took place. The Aruba Events GmbH had invited the Who is who of the games industry to present the winner of the voting for the best PC-, Console- and Mobile Games produced in Germany.
This night should be a very special occasion for the HandyGames™ team: In the vote for the Best Mobile Game of the year the game HandyGames™ developed for the epic fantasy game series Gothic, Gothic 3– the Beginning, was announced as the winner. The results were found via an online voting in the run-up to the event and the German gaming community voted the cult game's mobile adaptation right in the first place.
Already in the development a big point was made of giving Gothic 3– the Beginning a very own state in the Gothic universe. The German Developer Award also honoured the idea to create the game as a fully-fledged prequel of the Gothic 3 plot and so bringing real role-play feeling on mobile phones.
In first line of course the HandyGames™ management was very pleased to win this award: "These price shows that you can make more out of a first-class licence theme than a branded Jump and Run", said HandyGames™ CEO Christopher Kassulke. "We are very proud about this award and about our whole team that has enabled this success with all their work and creativity first."
HandyGames™ CEO Markus Kassulke also annotated the win of the German Developer Award: "This award is a valuable decoration for HandyGames™! The user's vote for a 2D-game proves that an exciting and diversified game play is more important to the gaming community as 3D-graphics on a mobile's display."
For HandyGames™ CFO Udo Bausewein the award is another inducement to produce the best mobile games in Germany also in the future. "Such a win motivates us to develop always brand-new game highlights for mobile phones. We already have some innovative new developments in the pipeline for 2009– the gaming community does right to be curious.“
