IGN UK searches for new Entertainment Writer and Games Editor

14/04/11– IGN, the UK’s biggest video games and entertainment website, is positioning itself for further audience growth with the creation of two new editorial roles for experienced journalists.  An Entertainment Writer and Games Editor will join the team and create compelling content for IGN’s broad audience of 18 to 35 year old males.

Now reaching more than 2.2m readers in the UK every month (comScore– Feb 2011) IGN continues to build its London-based team, recently kicking off a new events strategy to bring its audience even closer to its content.  IGN’s popular First Look franchise gives games and film fans a chance to experience eagerly awaited new releases first and for free.  IGN’s recent sponsorship of KAPOW! Comic Con saw 10,000 fans visit the IGN Arena– giving consumers a chance to see the latest games and movies and get up close to their heroes, with big names including Chris Hemsworth, Danny McBride, Duncan Jones, Joe Cornish and Tetsuya Mizuguchi appearing on the IGN Stage.

IGN UK’s new recruits will join Editor-in-Chief Alex Simmons’ UK editorial team and will actively explore new ways of reaching games and entertainment fans across all media– including video, social media and emerging platforms.  Offering accomplished journalists international exposure for their work, IGN content is available to over 20m readers a month who visit the website worldwide and IGN’s YouTube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/ignentertainment), which attracts over 50m video views globally every month.

Alex Simmons, Editor-in-Chief IGN UK, said:

“This is an exciting time to join IGN, as we continue our UK audience growth and get closer to our readers than ever before.  The two positions are rare opportunities for successful writers to take their career to the next level.”

“We’re looking for experienced journalists who are well-known in the games and film industries and aren’t afraid of exploring new ways of communicating with passionate fans.  Neither of these roles will just be about your writing skills– you may find yourself in front of the camera, or even on-stage with an audience of thousands.”
