30 September 2013 – Stockholm, Sweden... Ruzzle, the fast-paced word game on mobile platforms, today released the results of a research survey it conducted into UK mobile gaming habits.
Playing games on mobiles and tablets is now such a common activity that millions of adults across the UK are unable to even put them down at work or when in bed with their partner.
Almost three quarters admit to playing mobile games at least once a week, while almost four in ten of us play every day.
Furthermore, on the days spent playing, the average person will dedicate almost 30 minutes of their day to these games, with women perhaps surprisingly spending more time playing on mobile devices than men.
And if you’re a public transport user and wonder why everyone is so engrossed with their phones every morning, it’s not emails, text messages or even online papers that have them so transfixed, but mobile games, with 35% saying mobile gaming has replaced their habit of reading a book or paper on the way to work.
“In a world where we are constantly interrupted by mails, messages and calls, playing a 2-minute word game helps re-focus and relax,” says Daniel Hasselberg, CEO of the game studio behind Ruzzle, one of the most popular word games in 2013. “A short and competitive game that challenges your brain can get all your attention and the research shows that more than half the people feel that these kind of games enable us to concentrate better during the day ahead.”
However, it’s not just on the morning commute that we play, according to the report, with around two fifths of men (compared to a quarter of women) admitting to playing mobile games ‘on the job’ when they should be working. Women are more likely to have played a mobile game whilst in bed with their partner, as are the 25 – 34 year olds. And it is the toilet that tops the favourite place to play a mobile game.
The research for Ruzzle was carried out by Opinion Matters between: 12-19 September 2013. Sample: 1,053 UK respondents who play mobile games.
All research conducted adheres to the MRS Codes of Conduct (2010) in the UK and ICC/ESOMAR World Research Guidelines. Opinion Matters is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office and is fully compliant with the Data Protection Act (1998).
