UK, Cambridge, Tuesday 11 th September – Jagex, the UK’s largest independent games developer and publisher, today announced the promotion of Remo Gettini to Chief Technology Officer. Gettini, who has more than 20 years experience in the technology industry, first joined Jagex as the VP of Technology in March of this year. Jagex Chief Executive Mark Gerhard, who has been serving as both CEO and CTO to date will pass over the technology reigns over the coming weeks.
As CTO, Gettini will be responsible for driving forward Jagex’s technologies for the studio’s existing and future titles whilst also helping spearhead Jagex’s unannounced gaming Platform as a Service (PaaS), which promises to remove the barriers for independent developers by equipping them with all the tools needed to create, distribute and operate truly ground breaking online games.
Commenting on Gettini’s promotion, Mark Gerhard, Jagex CEO said; “Remo has a proven record in creating innovative gaming platforms built upon next generation technologies as well as scaling highly talented engineering teams time and time again. He is smart, passionate, forward thinking and the ideal person to drive forward our innovative technology.”
Gerhard continued; “Everyone at Jagex is dedicated to putting independent game developers back on the map again by helping to ensure more online success stories like Jagex in the near future. We have hugely ambitious plans to share the plethora of proprietary technology that has been core to our own success as both a developer and publisher over the years. With Remo at the helm, I am confident that we can not only realise our platform strategy but also go on to play a significant role in reshaping the games development landscape for years to come.”
Speaking of his new post, Gettini commented; “When I joined Jagex, I said that the entire games industry was at a turning point, on the precipice of substantial change and extremely promising growth for those that make the smart moves to the right platforms. I firmly believe that Jagex is in an exceptionally unique position to facilitate this change by supporting likeminded developers as they strive to create ground breaking online games by utilising our industry leading online technology and platforms. It’s safe to say that the future of Jagex looks very exciting indeed.”
Prior to Jagex, Gettini served at CTO of Time Out where he was responsible for their entire global infrastructure, platform development and technology roadmap. Gettini has also served Electronic Arts as their Head of EMEA, EA Interactive Central, where he helped to build their interactive platform and specifically the technology for numerous successful games such as FIFA, Need for Speed and The Sims. He was a founding member of EA Mobile/Interactive which created next gen of multimedia entertainment converging Online, Mobile and Social Platforms.
Since joining Jagex, Gettini has fortified the Technology teams by adding more than forty new vacancies to help support the studio’s technology roadmap, ranging from senior/department head roles to QA and support roles.
