Just How Social Are Social Gamers? Very. New Study by MocoSpace Analyzes the Social Graph and Engagement among Some of the Web&r

BOSTON–  April 14, 2011–  Just how social are gamers? This was the question that the largest entertainment destination on the mobile web sought to answer. It turns out that gamers are very social - and very valuable. MocoSpace analyzed 10,000 anonymous users of its smart phone mobile social network in March 2011. The company discovered that gamers on the 18 million member-strong community are actually more social than non-gamers on the network. The results showed that social gamers have nearly three times more friends and spend three times as long on the site as the non-gamers.

The study found that the average minutes spent on the site for a social gamer is 141 minutes, compared to 45 minutes for non-gamers. Social gamers had an average of 50 friends each, while non-gamers had an average of only 18, almost a three-fold difference. When it comes to the very popular mobile activity of taking photos with their phone, gamers outpaced non-gamers and upload twice as many photos per day.

“From MocoSpace’s research, there’s no question that the fastest growing consumer segments on the mobile web are social gamers, and now that many of these gamers are armed with smartphones, we expect smartphones to become the next frontier for social gaming,” states Michael Cai, VP of Research of Interpret LLC.

“The study validated our decision to prioritize games over user-generated content as a means for engaging with other members on MocoSpace,” says co-founder and CEO Justin Siegel.“By the end of the year, we will give advertisers access to the game related inventory, which is something we are getting continued requests to do today.”

The MocoSpace Games Platform launched in October 2010.  The company has since launched a number of in-house and third party games, which generate over 3 million minutes a day of activity on the site.
