PARIS and COLOGNE, August 10, 2012 — At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) Europe and Gamescom in Cologne, MASA Group (“MASA”), a leading developer of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Modeling & Simulation (M&S) software for the defense, public safety, emergency management, serious games and games-related markets, will showcase the next generation of MASA LIFE, an AI-based middleware that will enable decision making and intuitive, lifelike behavior authoring. LIFE will also provide developers with the competitive advantage of cutting costs as well as development and maintenance time through easy content reusability. The new version of LIFE is planned to be launched on the occasion of GDC San Francisco in March 2013.
“We are looking forward to sharing MASA LIFE’s AI-based innovations and the Early Adopters Program with all the game and serious game industry players gathered at GDC Europe and Gamescom this year,” explains Frank Gwosdz, LIFE’s Product Manager at MASA Group. “More specifically, we are keenly interested in how game professionals will leverage LIFE’s intuitive, realistic behavior authoring tools and decision making capabilities, such as our graphical editor and our unique “What-You-See-Is-What-You-Simulate” sandbox for pre-visualization, as well as LIFE’s ability to cut costs and provide content reusability in a fast pace global game market,”
During Gamescom, visitors at MASA’s booth (Hall 4.2, Aisle E, booth N°: 014) will see how LIFE can help game and serious game developers differentiate themselves in light of increased competition. By decreasing development time and increasing productivity, developers can reduce risks and time-to-market in all aspects of a game or serious game development, thus enabling game developers to create realistic behaviors at reduced costs.
MASA understands that, in the current game market, content reusability is critical, allowing game developers to have easier maintenance of existing projects, easier knowledge transfer between developing staff, and reusability of existing content for new projects. Our middleware LIFE responds to this need by providing intuitive workflow technology allowing developers to transfer their work to other developers efficiently and in a timely manner, thus ensuring constant productivity and fewer managerial risks.
LIFE will include numerous components of AI-based technology for decision making and knowledge representation; other capabilities of LIFE include pathfinding, steering, perception, and planning. LIFE will also be delivered with an Application Programming Interface (API), a modeling framework, and behavior samples used to intuitively author automated or semi-automated realistic behaviors for characters, crowds and objects within simulated environments.
LIFE will help developers to create more fluent behaviors through the use of diverse technologies - such as Hierarchical Behavior Trees (HBT) and Hierarchical Finite State Machines (HFSM) - and can smoothly integrate with third-party game development platforms such as Unity.
MASA LIFE’s Early Adopters Program
In light of MASA’s launch of LIFE, developers can benefit from an Early Adopter Program. This program allows game development companies to benefit from a series of advantages such as direct access to MASA LIFE’s roadmap and MASA’s AI experts, personalized support and financial advantages.
The use cases of LIFE are extremely diverse. They range from mission-critical applications in industries, to modeling in a realistic manner the behaviors of non-player characters and crowds in simulations, games, and serious games applications using 3D-game technologies.
With this program, participating companies will be able to empower their games thanks to MASA’s AI expertise. In addition, companies will be able to accelerate their time-to-market and reduce their game development costs.
MASA LIFE’s Early Adopters Program includes already members such as:
· Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), a worldwide leading provider of armored wheeled and tracked vehicles, integrates LIFE into its existing simulation platforms (from tank driving simulators to virtual synthetic environments) in order to enhance their capabilities. KMW chose to use MASA LIFE, a commercial-off-the-shelf solution, rather than be burdened with the cost and risk of developing and maintaining an internal solution,
· IMOSHION, a European consortium of ten partners from six different European countries, which has an objective to improve health and security at work in European SMEs, using simulation tools and virtual reality,
· SYCLOPE, a consortium driven by the DGA (the French defense procurement agency) that develops a new technology to simulate realistic crowd behaviors as well as interactions between populations and defense and public safety forces.
Companies interested in becoming members of LIFE’s Early Adopter Program and wishing to benefit from the technical and financial advantages offered by this program are invited to contact Frank Gwosdz, LIFE’s Product Manager at MASA Group, e-mail: email@example.com, mobile: +49 17622348224, or to visit the MASA at Gamescom (Hall 4.2, Aisle E, booth N°: 014).
