TORONTO, Canada - Sept 29, 2011 - Massive Damage, a location based gaming start-up founded by veteran app developers Ken Seto and Garry Seto, announced today that the company has closed a $325K angel round. Prominent participants include Boston’s Apricot Capital and Toronto’s Grassfed Capital as well as respected angels Ty Danco and Shopify CEO, Tobias Lütke.
Several weeks ago, Massive Damage released Please Stay Calm, their location-based zombie survival game, exclusively onto the Canadian iOS App Store. “We believe location is a powerful context for gaming. People have a strong affinity for their favorite places and our game taps into that real world connection” said Ken Seto, CEO and Co-Founder of Massive Damage, “Our early numbers indicate an extremely high level of engagement from our players, proving the market potential of location-based gaming.”
“Massive Damage has unlocked the key to location-based gaming. Please Stay Calm is an extremely accessible, fun and engaging game that also sits perfectly at the intersection of location, social and mobile” added Tobias Lütke, CEO of Shopify and angel investor, “The team has the passion and talent to build a truly next generation mobile gaming company.”
Please Stay Calm is a free game available now for the iPhone and iPod touch via the Canadian App Store and will be launching in the US App Store on Oct. 13th, 2011.
