Mechanist Games to launch City of Steam sneak peak alpha test late February, sign-up for keys now open.

January 11 th, 2011 – The world is not what it once was. Next month players are invited to a sneak peek at City of Steam, and embark on an adventure in Ebonwax, suburb of the long-since fallen city of Nexus that sits at the centre of the world. Here, in the twilight of more than one great civilization gamers can choose how to confront the sprawling dungeons, breathtaking towers, imaginative forces that exist in City of Steam be it as any of the playable races and classes in original settings the experience will be unforgettable.

City of Steam is an “Industrial Age Fantasy” sub-genre of steampunk, employing inspiring technology remise of a time before the digital-age, when science imagined clambering robots, steam airships, the sleek glimmer of steel and the heavy coat of coal sprawling out across an ardent landscape that is fading into its own dark shadows. Ebonwax, a city built upon the failures of its past demands its citizens to fend for themselves as those histories begin to resurface and with them the horrors and treasures that made them.

Already years in development, City of Steam is a browser-based MMORPG that uses the Unity 3D engine, bringing sharp and smooth visuals that immerse players in the industrial-age fantasy. The game itself draws its history from The New Epoch , a series of table-top game books written by David Lindsay, co-founder of JW Games and currently operating as General Manager and Lead Designer at Mechanist Games . His passion and involvement is apparent at every stage of the game ensuring that his vision is brought to life without compromise to originality or entertainment.

The staff at Mechanist Games are gamers themselves and as such are devoted to delivering a game that is up to their scrutinizing tastes and standards. To this level of professionalism they have provided on the website a detailed Development Journal where the Designers, Artists and Coders offer personal details and insight into the game’s progress.

Alongside the Development Journal visitors to the site are encouraged to “talk to a developer” fuelling a constant relationship between the public and the process of making the game, the art and technical components and a familiarity that promotes in-depth communication that makes Mechanist Games approachable.  The Official Forum further foster a connection to the world of City of Steam , encouraging players to discuss between one another, read about new announcements, game lore, media and provide suggestions as to how the game can be improved.
