Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China Issues Notification to Regulate Activities on Animation

SAN FRANCISCO—July 1, 2009—With rapid development of the Chinese animation, comics, and game exhibition (herein referred to as A.C.G.), the Ministry of Culture of the P.R. of China (MOC) has installed a new approval process to help engender healthy organized events and growth of these industries in China. Moving forward, foreign and international A.C.G exhibitions and trading activities must receive approval from provincial culture administration authorities and finally the Ministry of Culture itself. The 2009 Game Developers Conference China (GDC China) is the first game developer event to secure official MOC endorsement for their 2nd conference dedicated to the art, science and business of games. GDC China, presented by Think Services, a Division of United Business Media- returns to the Shanghai Convention Center October 11-13.

In the recent years, China has experienced rapid growth in animation, comic, and game exhibititions throughout its regions. With the expanse of these industries and accelerated growth, the nation has also witnessed excessive and burdened activities as a bi-product. These activities include illegal invitation of foreign groups, display of illegal contents, and wasted resources. The goal of the MOC is to provide better regulations for these growing fields and to ensure that business continues, but under correct and ethical direction.

“The GDC is proud to be aligned with an organization such as the MOC,” said GDC China event director Meggan Scavio.“The steps the Ministry of Culture is taking are in the best interest of the developers and the future of the games industry. GDC China, being the first officially recognized game developer event by the Ministry of Culture in China is a win and step forward for the games industry in China.”
