Nexon America’s third quarter revenues sizzle; increase 28 percent over 2009

Nexon America announced that its third quarter revenues have jumped more than 28 percent over the third quarter of 2009 as customers continue to flock to its catalog of free-to-play online games. Nexon also posted 23 percent growth in September compared to September of 2009, marking the company’s 16th month of increased revenues as compared to the same months of the previous year. During that same 16 month period, sales for much of the video game industry have been sluggish.

“All of our games have seen significant growth in customers and revenues,” said Daniel Kim Nexon America’s CEO.“Our formula of consistently delivering quality content on a regular basis helps us to maintain our player base, and expand it as well. Our expertise at monetizing our content maintains a careful balance for players who want to pay for in-game items and those who enjoy the totally-free aspects of our games. Our business model and content have clearly hit the right note for players.”

The combined registered users for Nexon America games surpassed 12 million during the third quarter and major updates were added to Combat Arms, MapleStory, Mabinogi and Dungeon Fighter Online. Nexon also made several major marketing pushes while attempting innovative player referral and cross-promotional programs.

The fourth quarter, which holds the traditionally strongest revenue generating months for Nexon, will also include the release of Vindictus. Set for launch on Oct. 27, Vindictus has received positive previews from both the press and players during its beta phases and was singled out by several media outlets at June’s E3 Expo in Los Angeles as one of the top massively multiplayer online games of the show.

“Vindictus has had one of the smoothest and most successful beta periods we have seen,” said Kim.“We feel optimistic about the path that we are taking and the games we are adding to our catalogue.”
