LONDON, 10TH OCTOBER 2012 - Introducing Just Like Real Life for Windows and Mac, the debut release from Lewie & Karn's Digital Entertainment Software.
Just Like Real Life was developed in 48 hours during UKIE's Journo Dev Swap game jam, part of the London Games Festival. Games Journalist Lewie Procter ( SavyGamer.co.uk, Rock Paper Shotgun) teamed up with Karn Bianco (University of Derby, Rare, Lionhead) to make a mouse controlled shmup, all about shooting enemies whilst trying to avoid your own bullets. It features a generative discordant soundtrack, infinite combinations of procedurally generated levels, and an online leaderboard.
Of his experience designing his first ever game, Lewie said:
"I had such good fun making Just Like Real Life, after spending so long playing and thinking about games, it's about time I gave creating one a shot. Working with Karn on Just Like Real Life was a revelation, and it's inspired me to try to learn how to make games independently."
On making Just Like Real Life, Karn said:
"Developing Just Like Real Life was a very organic process. Time constraints meant that bugs often grew into features, and throwaway ideas became defining features overnight. I had a lot of fun making the game that way, and I'd love to return to it in the future."
The things people said after playing Just Like Real Life:
"I want your balls bouncing everywhere as my ejaculations bounce off the walls." - Rob Fearon
"Interesting game - the audio was the best part" - Jim Rossignol
"The audio was disturbing" - Edmund McMillen
"Really Hard. Kind of going for the Rock Paper Shotgun audience, I think, with the difficulty level". - Miles Jacobson (Sports Interactive)
"For Procter and Bianco to have quietly brought it all together in 48-hours, to me, just seems amazing. But it’s not really the technical achievement that impresses; it’s the thoughtfulness of the implementation throughout. It feels coherent and surprising and, above all, fun." - Jim Griffiths (Mediatonic)
