London, 27 th September 2013 - PlayCanvas the cloud-hosted HTML5 game development platform is now in Open Beta and will be demonstrating their impressive technology to an invited audience of 300 at Techstars’ first ever European event in London today.
PlayCanvas was founded by Will Eastcott (formerly Activision’s European Technical Director and Criterion’s Product Manager for the RenderWare middleware) and Dave Evans (one of the founding members of the PlayStation Home team). The team has been working on the platform since 2011 and now believe it is ready for Open Beta. With over forty years of technical experience throughout the development team, they are very well placed to provide a powerful, end-to-end development and publishing solution for 3D HTML5 games.
They have had a further boost by being accepted to participate in Techstars’ first ever European event in London and were selected as one of the 10 participants from over 1300 applications. Techstars is one of the world’s top start-up accelerators and on average participants attract $1,490,000 of seed funding through their association with Techstars.
In announcing the PlayCanvas Open Beta Will Eastcott said “PlayCanvas is the world’s first cloud-hosted game development platform. Developers finally have the ability to collaborate in real-time, access their projects from any device and join an online network of like-minded developers. After honing the platform during our lengthy closed beta, we’re thrilled to open the doors to PlayCanvas and let everyone discover a better way to make games.” He added “We were very flattered to have made the cut to participate in TechStars’ first European event. It has a very impressive success rate with 80% of participants attracting funding. We are looking forward to presenting PlayCanvas to the audience today.”
PlayCanvas is seen as one to watch by the global indie game development community. Alex Zoro, Founder and COO of Pixel Toys said “As a small developer focussed on bringing quality 3D content to a broad range of devices, we are genuinely excited about the possibilities that PlayCanvas opens up for developers. The pioneering use of a cloud-based collaborative development toolchain, and a flexible and fast 3D HTML5 engine, has the potential to be a game changer for indies delivering 3D content across the web.”
