(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)
Whatever your gaming tastes, you (and plenty of Android gaming critics) can't beat a spot of digital solitaire - as evidenced by Spider Solitaire topping the Android Qi game chart for August 2012. Meanwhile, down in fourth, the wickedly funny Organ Trail: Director's Cut is winning a lot of fans with its retro-tinged survival sim gameplay. Few companies have embraced the Android platform quite like Kairosoft, however, so it's no surprise to see the Japanese studio;s sci-fi management sim Kairobotica sitting pretty at #6. Behind it in eighth sits Glu's Gears & Guts, a splattery mix of driving and arena carnage with a healthy helping of zombies on the side.
On top of the August Qi app chart for Android is TravelRussia, which promises to guide you through the delights of this vast and mysterious country. In second place is Camera Launcher for Nexus 7, which neatly overcomes the device's lack of a rear camera by allowing you to use the front camera for shooting snaps and videos. In the #5 slot this month, Tiny Flashlight + LED seems to be one of the most effective and versatile torch apps on the Google Play Store: it incorporates both screen and camera flash illumination options and a bunch of useful widgets. Finally, the dramatically titled SwipePad: Hyperspace Jump, down in ninth, allows you to jump straight into your favourite apps from any screen through a neat gesture-based system. Clever.
We'll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which Android games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the Android Quality Index now.
