(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)

Adopting a refreshingly irreverent, fourth wall-breaking tone, Picnic Hippo Studios’s casual physics game Bucketz finished July 2012 atop the iPhone Qi game chart. Meanwhile, Song Pop, in second place on this month's hit parade, takes the great British pub quiz out of the pub and puts it in your pocket. Featuring online cross-platform competitive play, Song Pop tasks you with identifying the names of tunes and artists before your opponent. Hot on its heels is the frenetic 2D shoot-‘em-up Bug Princess 2 Black Label from cult Japanese developer Cave. This old skool blaster is actually a remix of Bug Princess 2, but with the addition of all-new God and Boss Rush modes.

The field of interactive children’s apps is a growing one - and one that we’d speculate may be commensurate with the increase in affordable iPhone cases. Mr.shape’s TouchCard is the latest kiddie app to make an impression, finishing on top of our iPhone Qi app chart for July 2012, with the similarly themed Number Pals! just below it. Another highly rated - but distinctly non-kiddie - iPhone app this month is Med Time, which notifies you when it’s time to take your medication. Right up there with it is Mood Shifter by Pamela Turner - an intriguing app that promises to transform negative moods like fear and pessimism into positive ones like confidence and optimism. Right on!

We'll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the  iPhone Quality Index  now.

Know of a great reviews site that should be included?

If you own or know a reputable apps review site that should be added to the  Quality Index, then pop along to our instructions for  getting listed.
