IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE
12th January 2010
Leading independent videogames developer Rebellion today announced that corporate restructuring will take advantage of the expanded facilities at their Oxford Head Quarters and the Runcorn studio. The Derby facility, acquired from Eidos, is coming to the end of its lease, and staff are being consulted on its future.
Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director of Rebellion said, "We are very excited about the expansion of our Oxford offices, the home of Aliens vs. Predator. Recruitment is ongoing both in Oxford and in Runcorn. However, growth is sometimes painful, never more so than in the current climate and we have had to take a long hard look at how we operate our studio network. Strategically we have decided to review the need for the Derby facilities, and consultation with staff at Derby is ongoing.”
A further announcement on the restructuring of the Rebellion studio network will be made in the coming weeks.
The UK-based computer games super-developer was established in 1992 by brothers Jason and Chris Kingsley. Their first major success was Aliens Vs. PredatorTM, creating game innovations years ahead of their time. As their name suggests, their approach to game production is focused primarily on cross-platform innovation and product quality.
2007 was Rebellion’s 15th anniversary and saw the company acquire the Awesome Studio from Ignition in March increasing its staff to 280 personnel. 2007 saw the release of the global hits; The Simpsons Game with EA on PlayStation®2&PSP&Nintendo Wii, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with EA on PlayStation®PSP, Star Wars: Renegade Squadron with LucasArts on PlayStation®PSP, Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem with Sierra on PlayStation®PSP and finally Rebellion’s own brand Free Running® with Reef Entertainment on PlayStation®2&PSP.
In 2009 their next-gen projects: Aliens Vs. Predator with SEGA on PlayStation®3, Xbox 360&PC and Rogue Warrior with Bethesda on PlayStation®3, Xbox 360&PC were announced.
With studios situated at four key sites around the UK, Rebellion leads the way in which larger studios conduct AAA projects over multiple sites. This, whilst retaining its core values of creativity, cross-platform innovation, cutting-edge technology and product quality, places Rebellion as one of the leading lights within the global development community.
