Refract Studios unveils pre-alpha gameplay for experimental racing game Distance

Seattle, 30th October 2012 – Refract Studios just released the first pre-alpha gameplay footage for  Distance, a spiritual successor to the award-winning student game  Nitronic Rush. Revealing intense new multiplayer racing action and a completely rebuilt dystopian world, the gameplay video shows the work of a three man indie team after four months of development. It's captured from pre-alpha, work-in-progress code and available at:

In short, Distance is Trials Evolution + Rush 2049 +  Halo +  Tron. The game takes the intense action of arcade racing and fuses it with the exploration of an atmospheric world. You pilot a unique car as you attempt to survive in a chaotic and twisted city. The game combines the emotions of adrenaline and curiosity, as drivers race to death while being able to explore the intricacies of a mysterious world.

The new gameplay video shows head-to-head multiplayer racing while showcasing several unique abilities of the car, such as boost, flight, and full rotation of the vehicle in any direction. The cars battle on the track while performing various stunts and exploring the world.  Distance  challenges players to not only race in typical fashion, but it tests players' abilities to use the full spectrum of mechanics available with their vehicles.

In the effort to remain independent, the team recently launched a Kickstarter campaign. The campaign video showcases the new gameplay footage, as well as industry veterans backing the project. Cliff Bleszinski was a fan of  Nitronic Rush and shows his support for  Distance saying "I think it's going to be a fantastic game. They're very talented guys and they deserve your support."  Aaron Hightower, lead programmer for San Francisco Rush 2049 arcade, also shows his support saying "Please, try and support this Kickstarter and let's see what they're going to do next."

Distance will be released for Windows and Mac in 2013. To be a part of the action and get access to the beta, please check out:
