Riot Games and Turtle Entertainment announce an eSports evolution: Advanced technical integration between ESL and League of Lege

Cologne, August 2, 2012 – California’s extremely successful game developer Riot Games, and Europe’s premiere gaming competition, Electronic Sports League (ESL), strengthen their cooperation by developing a technical link between their platforms. Offering League of Legends players and fans a more intense, massive and extensive online eSports experience. This visionary move strengthens League of Legends’ position as the most popular eSports game in the world and will enhance player experience by making the participation in the coveted ESL cups (Like Go4LoL series) seamless.

“eSports is the most important aspect of the success and rapid growth of League of Legends. Thus we are very happy about this cooperation with ESL, which – with its global reach and millions of members – is one of our strongest partners. We will further expand our cooperation and develop eSports even more”, says Dustin Beck, VP eSports at Riot Games.

Sebastian Weishaar, VP International Business at Turtle Entertainment, is extremely enthusiastic about the cooperation as well: „League of Legends is excellent proof for the massive potential eSports has to offer. We are extremely proud that together with Riot we were able to achieve this strong link between the most successful MOBA game in the world and ESL. It is a huge win for the community as well as the first important step for us on our way to becoming a technological service provider in the video game business. I’m confident that we, ESL and Riot Games, can set new records with our online eSports cups”.

About the technical integration

Fueled by the immense popularity of the Go4LoL Cups Series (Currently the largest 1 day online cup in Gaming) Riot Games decided to integrate this competition directly into their game; League of Legends. This new interface allows the 100,000,000 players worldwide, access to a specially designed cup management, making the participation in the Go4LoL matches intuitive, and fun. The League of Legends client and ESL portal simultaneously generate code for Go4LoL matches, which will forward the player right into the lobby of his next game! Once the match finishes, the results will be automatically incorporated in ESL rankings. This allows easy competition access, and automates results and progression.
