Rome, Octobe r 19th, 2012

AIOMI, the Italian Movement for Videogame Culture, is proud to announce that Rome is about to be peacefully invaded by the dreadful Japanese “little aliens” which, in 1978, made the world crazy, bringing video games to the attention of the mass market and even causing the 100-yen coins - needed to play a game - to be in short supply.

TAITO® Corporation, the legendary Japanese software house which created SPACE INVADERS®, sent to VIGAMUS - The Video Game Museum of Rome an original coin-op of Tomohiro Nishikado’s all-time masterpiece. It will be held in the interactive area of the museum, functioning and playable.

SPACE INVADERS® will permanently remain in VIGAMUS, starting from Saturday November 3rd, the day when its arriving will be celebrated with a conference dedicated to this legendary space shooter, a classic icon that has literally become synonymous to Video Game.

“SPACE INVADERS® isn’t just a video game, but a milestone of the whole history of the medium”, declared Marco Accordi Rickards, Director of VIGAMUS. “The participation of TAITO® Corporation to our project makes our Museum even more international and complete”.

Yoichi Wada, President of TAITO, stated "Thirty years have passed since the release of our first computer game, Space Invaders. This starting point is very important to us, and as a result we have taken Space Invaders as the logo under which we conduct business. The current rapid development of information technology is bringing about a fusion of games, music, and movies, resulting in a new entertainment synthesis. We see our task as moving out of the current entertainment box to creating new kinds of fun. By moving ahead to expand the services we provide, we intend to configure ourselves to provide “stories” that transcend the limitations of genre or media. TAITO looks forward to a boundless vista of possibilities in contributing to our customers’ happiness. Perhaps Space Invaders will become the symbol of those boundless possibilities."
