Following the success of top-down sci-fi shooter Steel Storm: Burning Retribution, Kot-in-Action Creative Artel is now working on the game’s sequel, Steel Storm 2. Unlike the original, this sequel takes player feedback into consideration and combines vehicle and on-foot action so that a more engaging and diverse tale is experienced from behind the eyes of its protagonist, Aurora Riley.
Currently the game is in the early stages of development and has not long been transferred from the Darkplaces Engine over to the mighty idTech 4 GPL engine, which is behind titles such as Doom 3, Quake 4, Prey, Wolfenstein and Brink. Funding for the game’s development so far has been supplied by the sales from Steel Storm: Burning Retribution but that pot has since run dry so now the team is seeking funding for the game’s development on Indiegogo and the official website.
The $95,000 sought after will be spent on necessary licenses and software, as well as freelancers to provide the game with its required art assets and fully realized levels. To ensure that players receive the game as soon as possible, Steel Storm 2 has been split up into four chapters that will be released sequentially when each has been finished. The Indiegogo funding will primarily go towards the first chapter with the rest of the chapters being funded from the sales of the initial release.
Those who support Steel Storm 2’s further development will receive just awards for doing so. These include a copy of Steel Storm 2: Chapter 1 on Steam, the digital art book, a Steel Storm 2 action figure, the chance to design a weapon or vehicle to feature in the game and even a unique hand-forged Steel Storm 2 collectible katana.
Those who would like to support the game’s development directly with no cut for Indiegogo can do so through the official Steel Storm 2 website. Most of the rewards are still available through the website.

Aurora Riley, former hovertank pilot for the RIAC forces, still hears the echoes of war ringing in her ears years after the Burning Retribution campaign. Special training programs the RIAC officers are put through has led to her being unable to recall key moments from her life. Aurora seeks answers while she leads the life of a simple resources scout. Her current mission might be her last as she risks the harsh climate of the mysterious planet Phaeton located on the rim of the Warbird Galaxy. Players will be able to jump into Aurora’s boots when Steel Storm 2 launches on Steam in the Fall of 2013.
About Kot-in-Action Creative Artel
Kot-in-Action Creative Artel is a small video game developer, a privately owned entity dedicated to creating and producing fun to play and challenging video games.
Before the company shaped up, most of the team members were modders of ID Software's® game titled "Quake"®, with various degrees of experience. In 2008, Alexander "motorsep" Zubov, inspired by the indie movement in the video game development industry, decided to make his own games. After releasing the first two installments of the studio's "Steel Storm" series to overall positive reviews, work on Steel Storm 2, the first person shooter follow up and third title in the series, is now under way.
