LOS ANGELES– April 4, 2011– Ecotopia, the environmentally friendly Facebook game from independent game studio Talkie ( http://talkie.tv) has opened today to a select group of gamers. Developed in association with Conservation International(CI), Ecotopia is a Facebook gaming adventure advocating environmental activism through engaging storylines and dynamic gameplay. While currently in private beta, the public launch of the game will be announced shortly.
In Ecotopia, players are tasked with transforming a dilapidated and polluted city into a digital paradise in an eco-themed, hero versus villains challenge. Fans participating in the closed beta trial are invited to go on in-game quests to generate resources and develop their own environmentally friendly areas, perform real-world acts of sustainability, and view clips from Conservation International– and other players– on Ecotopia TV. With the game’s full launch, players will also earn in-game points for their real-world acts of green; a never-before-seen approach to promoting environmental awareness.
“ Ecotopia reimagines‘going green;’ encouraging players to not only learn how to make an impact through engaging, and more importantly, fun gameplay, but also rewarding them for taking that knowledge and applying it to their everyday lives,” said Chris Swain, founder and CEO of Talkie, and a professor and research institute director at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Cinematic Arts, Interactive Media division.“Our association with CI and our own in-depth knowledge of making games has allowed us to create a truly unique approach to sustainability and environmentally friendly living.”
