The last participants of the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship determined in Sao Paulo

Cologne, February 21, 2012 – The Electronic Sports League (ESL) has successfully organised another stop of the Intel Extreme Masters season 2011/12, the global league of the video game champions. The event took place on February 7 - 11, 2012 at Campus Party Brazil in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The best players from Europe, Asia and America competed for their share of 21,000 US Dollar in prize purse and slots in the nearest World Championship, which will take place at the beginning of March in Hanover, Germany. The competition was held in StarCraft 2. In addition, the tournament featured a local League of Legends tournament. The event attracted thousands of enthusiastic fans at the venue in Sao Paulo as well as on the streams on ESL TV, the ESL's web TV service.

Intel Extreme Masters StarCraft 2 competition ($21,000):

1. Place: Kim 'viOLet' Dong Hwan ($6,500 and a slot in the World Championship)

2. Place: Kim 'SuperNoVa' Young Jin ($3,300 and a slot in the World Championship)

3. Place: Joseph 'Ret' de Kroon ($1,750)

Local League of Legends tournament ($7,000):

1. Place: NooB da NeT ($3,400)

2. Place: World Wide Wipers ($1,600)

3. Place: paiN ($1,200)

4. Place: Awake ($800)

"I have never seen a crowd as passionate and as active in the show as the one we have seen last week in Sao Paulo," said Michal Blicharz, the Director of Pro Gaming at Turtle Entertainment. "The Brazilian audience has made sure that everyone that came to the event from abroad will remember their country very fondly," he added.

After the events in Cologne, Guangzhou, New York, Kiev and Sao Paulo the Intel Extreme Masters season 2011/12 will climax with the grand final of the league in Hanover,Germany (March 6 - 10). World's best professional gamers will compete with each other for a share of 283,000 US Dollar and the title of the World Champion. The disciplines of the competition are Counter-Strike 1.6, StarCraft II and League of Legends. The total prize money in 2011/12 season of the league is 643,000 US Dollar.
