New boxed sales take 42% of total spending on games
Online and mobile gaming take 51% of time, 26% of money.
AMSTERDAM, 31 August 2011 – The 2011 French National Gamers Survey (L’Etude Nationale des Jeux Video) and the international Games Market Revenue Report, both from Newzoo, reveal that 24 million French spend a total of 27 million hours per day on games. Less than half (42%) of these people actually spend money on games. Total consumer spending is expected to reach €3.2bn in 2011, 10% down from 2010. Almost three quarters (73%) goes to PC, Mac or console games, including second-hand trade, digital downloads and import. Spending on new boxed games has dropped to 41% of all money spent, totalling to €1.3bn, comparable to wat IDEF en SELL recently projected for France in 2011. Spending on download PC or Mac games is expected to grow 22% compared to last year. Spending on console DLC is expected to pass €120 million or 8% of all console spending. Online and mobile gaming takes 51% of all time spent and 26% of money with spending on social network games (+11%) and mobile devices including iPad and iPod Touch (+9%) showing the highest growth.
