Travian Games acquires majority in well-known Cologne-based game developer: Bright Future

Press release - for immediate publication

Munich, January 20 - 2012 has barely started and Munich-based browser games provider Travian Games has already consolidated its position as one of the leading online games companies in Europe. The consistent growth of the Travian Games family continues unabated with the acquisition of a majority in Cologne-based development studio Bright Future.

The acquisition of the 38-strong team represents the biggest single addition of an external development company in the history of Travian Games. Bright Future will continue to work independently on its own existing productions, while their participation will facilitate cooperation on Miramagia and an as-yet unannounced browser game.

Travian Games enjoyed a successful business year in 2011, with profits in the double-figures (millions) and an employee increase of almost 100 % to 230 employees, and 2012 is also shaping up to be a successful year.

Gerald Köhler, CEO of Bright Future GmbH is looking forward to a promising future: “We have found Travian Games to be a fair and reliable partner during over one and a half years of cooperation. Their carefully thought-through strategy has enabled them to excel in the hard-fought browser game market. The straightforward nature of the cooperation with our new parent company in Munich and the many opportunities arising from this new business relationship will be important catalysts for the further development of Bright Future. The infrastructure of Travian Games allows us to concentrate fully on our core competences – the development of carefully-selected and high-quality products. So far during our cooperation with Travian Games we have always been aware of their absolute passion for good games – so we are looking forward to our coming tasks.”

According to Travian Games CEO Florian Bohn: “We are very happy to welcome Bright Future, one of the best-known development studios in the German games industry, to the growing Travian Games family. In recent years, they have published some excellent quality and extremely successful products under the management of Gerald Köhler, Thomas Schwan and Petr Vlcek. We have already participated heavily in the magical garden simulation Miramagia, and a similar, very promising but as-yet unannounced browser game product is already well into development. The company’s consistently high quality and compliance with deadlines, its motivated and well-organized team, and not least the determination of its founders to remain true to their principles are all factors in our decision to welcome Bright Future as an additional external and independently-acting development studio, alongside northworks, TG Nord and Steroid Interactive.”
