World's best gamers compete in China

Intel Extreme Masters 2011/12 Global Challenge Guangzhou at Ani-Com & Game Expo – A share of 93,000 US Dollar and slots in the World Championship 2012 at stake – A total of 635,000 US Dollar in the prize purse of the league

Cologne, September 28, 2011 – Intel Extreme Masters, the global league of the video game champions organised by Electronic Sports League (ESL), comes to China for the second Global Challenge of the 2011/12 season. The tournament will take place on October 1 – 5 at Ani-Com & Games Expo in Guangzhou and will feature competitions in Counter-Strike 1.6, League of Legends and StarCraft 2. Top two players and teams in each of the disciplines will be awarded with slots in the grand finale of the league – the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship tournament, which takes place every year in Germany. In addition, the players will compete for a share of 93,000 US Dollar - a piece of 635,000 US Dollar, which is a total prize money of 2011/12 season of the league.

After a series of online qualifications, 96 of the world’s best gamers will meet in Guangzhou to determine the best in each of the disciplines. The list of participants includes such eSports celebrities like Gregory ‚IdrA‘ Fields from team Evil Geniuses or Counter-Strike 1.6 team Fnatic from Sweden. The players will fight for the trophies, high prize money and slots in the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship 2012.

After Chengdu and Shanghai, Guangzhou will be the third Chinese city hosting the Intel Extreme Masters tournament. Global Challenge Guangzhou will be the second live event of the 2011/12 season of the league after its launch at gamescom 2011 in Cologne, Germany. On their way to the World Championship event held in Hanover world’s best gamers will also visit New York, Kiev and Sao Paulo. All the tournaments will be broadcasted live on ESL TV, ESL’s web TV service, in several languages and HD.
