FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
6th February 2009 (London, UK)– XLEAGUE.TV, formerly part of the Portland Media Group and the first UK televised video games channel, has been established as a standalone business to provide high quality video games content and related media for the entertainment industries.
XLEAGUE.TV will be seeking commissions to film, produce and distribute game-related content for mainstream UK television. In addition, XLEAGUE.TV will continue to produce award winning video game related programming for the community and industry, such as "Games Night" the Games Media Awards 2008 Best Broadcast category winner.
Rights to historical online and video assets have been purchased by the TNWA Group, who will become a non-exclusive partner moving forward. Being the largest online competitive gaming community in the UK, TNWA Group will also absorb XLEAGUE.TV’s competitive gaming logistics and community management, allowing the XLEAGUE.TV to focus on content generation.
“Gaming as an entertainment medium is more accessible, more visual, and more interconnected than ever before,” said former Channel Head of XLEAGUE.TV and now Chief Executive of The United Kingdom eSports Association (UKeSA), Ray Mia.“Mainstream channels have identified a surging consumer demand for high quality games-related content, and XLEAGUE.TV has unrivalled experience in delivering compelling viewing in this extremely specialist arena.”
XLEAGUE.TV is the UK’s first dedicated eSports channel and fully integrated website. Launched in May 2007 by the Portland Media Group, it refocused it’s core business as a B2B operation in January 2009, generating and distributing video games-related content to entertainment industries.
