Capcom wants to shake up the third-person hack ‘n’ slash genre with Asura’s Wrath.
The publisher already has vast experience in this field with its long-running Devil May Cry franchise. The genre has also become increasingly competitive over the years, with titles like God of War and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow performing well.
Asura’s Wrath offers an alternative, more aggressive take, with a manic protagonist and over-the-top attacks all interwoven with a a story-based narrative and colourful art style. Capcom says it introduces a brand new style of gameplay that ‘redefines the action genre’.
“Asura’s Wrath fuses Asian mythology with sci-fi to present a fast-paced and relentless story,” says Capcom’s Adam Merrett. “Combined with the seamless blends of action and narrative, it promises to deliver an experience different to the norm, as credited by various press already.”
The publisher has already carried out various trade promotions for independent retailers, to drive pre-orders and the post-release DLC. This includes anime-inspired episodes and a piece of Street Fighter-themed content where Asura has to take on classic characters such as Ryu.
Asura’s Wrath follows the story of a formerly respected deity who is banished for crimes he did not commit. After his wife is killed and his daughter kidnapped, Asura seeks revenge against his enemies.
Gamers can command a range of attacks and take part in close quarters combat with quick-time events. They can also charge Asura’s ‘Burst Gauge’ to pull off incredibly powerful moves.Fans of Devil May Cry, Capcom and fast-paced action games will be right at home with Asura’s Wrath.
