Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition coming to Steam

Namco Bandai has announced the PC version of Dark Souls will be sold through Steam.

The news comes on the heels of vigorous protesting by fans following an initial announcement that only mentioned Games for Windows Live as far as PC integration and vending.

According to Eurogamer, the digital distributed version will be sold through Steam while the PC retail version will still use GFWL as DRM.

Additionally, IGN reports that the new content in the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will be released for Xbox 360 and PS3 as paid DLC.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition PC launches on August 24th, with console versions set to arrive this winter. The original version has moved 1.19m copies as of earlier this month.

Update: Article has been fixed to remove the mistaken claim that the game will have Steamworks integration. That’s uncofirmed at the moment. Apologies for the error.
