Dead Space 3

VIRGIN Galactic recently announced that it expects to be taking wealthy holidaymakers on commercial flights to outer space by 2014. If the Dead Space franchise is anything to go by, it might be best sticking with Majorca.

Dead Space 3 takes players to Tau Volantis, a snow covered planet whose ski resort potential is only hampered by the presence of the Necromorphs, the resident evil creatures of EA’s space opera franchise.

“Dead Space 3 is shaping up to be a fantastic addition to the franchise, expanding on Isaac’s story whilst staying true to the core features that have made the previous two titles so compelling,” says Alice Brandvik, product manager at EA.

“Visceral and the Dead Space series have both been fantastically received by both consumers and critics and we expect part three to be no different.”

Having given players sleepless nights with the first two entries in the series, Dead Space 3 allows consumers the chance to share the fear with a friend in a co-op mode.

This drop in, drop out co-op mode sees Isaac Jones joined by John Carver, a man seeking revenge on the Necromorphs after a family tragedy.

In this mode, Kinect consumers can utilise the capabilities of the device to issue voice commands to help friends whilst in the heat of battle.

The game also features a new weapon crafting system that allows players to modify almost every aspect of a their arsenal..

“Isaac is an engineer so it’s only natural that he should be able to create his own unique weapons from resources he finds within the environment,” adds Brandvik.

Arriving with a planet brimming with new Necromorphs, plot revelations and a mode to help those too scared to go it alone, Dead Space 3 offers more than enough reasons for customers to suit up and boldly go where no-one has wanted to go before.

Players that pre-order Dead Space 3 from will receive the Tesla Enervator, a humane weapon that delivers a precision blast causing immediate electrocution and “molecular destabilisation” in the enemy. Sounds like fun.

EA will be launching the game with a broad campaign featuring TV, online and retail in a bid to ensure the third title in the franchise is at the forefront of consumers minds come February 8th.

The Dead Space franchise first sent chills down spines in the critically acclaimed Dead Space in 2008. A sequel saw Isaac take on the Necromorphs in the city of Sprawl whilst Dead Space: Extraction saw the franchise make a Wii debut. The game was also made into an animated film in 2008 called Dead Space: Downfall.
