Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z - Retail Essentails

MCV takes a look at the latest fighting game set in the Dragon Ball universe.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z will be in stores on January 24th.

Battle of Z is the first new Dragon Ball Z game in two years, and is the latest in a long line of fighting games based on the best-selling anime.

This time around players won’t be fighting alone, but with up to three others in online-only co-operative play. Fans can either team up on one opponent or against another team in eight player carnage.

To date there are 43 characters confirmed to be in the game, with a total of 70 character tranformations available. These warriors come in four different types – fighting, ki blast, support and interference. Fighting characters are skilled at close combat, ki blast at long range, support provide assistance and interference characters make it harder for enemies to move.

New to this title are giant boss battles with players taking on the likes of Great Ape Vegeta.

Battle of Z’s single player mode is comprised of 60 missions taking fans from the Saiyan Saga to the Majin Buu Sage. Gamers can choose which side to play during each segment – good or evil.

There are also new scenarios, such as the Saiyans taking on all of Goku’s family at the same time.

Namco Bandai has been pushing Battle of?Z at events such as MCM ComicCon where Dragon Ball Z producer, Kunio Hashimoto, was on hand to sign autographs.

The publisher has placed ads on relevant websites, including several site takeovers, while in print Namco has booked ads in specialist games publications such as Official Xbox Magazine, Official PlayStation Magazine and GamesMaster. It has also run competitions in the lifestyle media such as national newspapers, Toxic and Beano.

Battle of Z is the first new Dragon Ball Z game in over two years, and brings a wealth of innovative mechanics to the series. With over 200m copies of the manga having sold worldwide, the active and dedicated Dragon Ball Z fanbase is as passionate as ever and we expect Battle of Z to be a big hit with the community.
