MCV looks at Microsoft's latest Kinect Sports title.
Kinect Sports Rivals will be in stores on April 11th.
Rivals is the third entry in the Kinect Sports series, which is the best-selling Kinect franchise to date. It promises to make the most of Microsoft’s new and improved Kinect and was made by Rare – the studio that over the years has brought us GoldenEye, Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong.
The title scans the player to create their Champion – a stylised digital version of themselves. As this virtual identity, fans compete against players from around the world as one of three global teams, each with their own philosophy and style of play.
Using the cloud, Kinect Sports Rivals adapts to how fans play in order to create a constantly changing experience.
The sports title will bring back tennis, bowling and football from previous entries, while new additions include target shooting, wake racing and rock climbing.
The game also features the voice acting talent of former Doctor Who David Tennant for the menu.
Since announcing its latest Kinect Sports title, Microsoft has been showing it off at preview events, studio tours and consumer trials.
Microsoft has partnered up with retailers to provide a pre-order program and will have an in-store presence at launch.
The platform holder has also launched a Kinect Sports Rivals window in London’s Harrods, promoting the title on one of the busiest shopping streets in the UK.
Alongside this, Microsoft is running a competition across Xbox UK social channels where three fans will win the opportunity to meet Rare and have a digital version of them appear in the shop window.
This follows the Kinect Sports Rivals demo Preaseason, which launched alongside the Xbox One and has scored over 1m downloads.
Kinect Sports Rivals is the next generation of the best-selling Kinect franchise, Kinect Sports. It brings your favourite sports back in re-imagined ways, and delivers new sports and events made possible only with Xbox One’s revolutionary technology.
As you enter into competitions with players from around the world, Xbox One uses the power of the Cloud to create an always-evolving experience that responds to how you play.
