Ninja Gaiden 3

Ninja Gaiden was a critical smash when it somersaulted its way onto the original Xbox in 2004.

The action adventure was applauded for its thrilling hack ‘n’ slash gameplay, fiendish difficulty curve and stonking graphics, resulting in a Metacritic score of 91.

The Ninja Gaiden series has in fact been around since the late ‘80s, with several releases on the NES and Sega consoles. But Xbox’s Gaiden really put the IP on the map after a lengthy hiatus, paving the way for several 3D action adventures.

The series has continued on PS3 and Xbox 360, and now Ninja Gaiden 3 is providing several new additions in order to excite gamers once again.

Multiple online modes have been introduced, allowing users to play cooperatively or competitively with each other, with fresh challenges, missions and characters. Plus, it’s also the first time a Ninja Gaiden game is being released simultaneously on both the HD home consoles.

“Ninja Gaiden is a much-loved franchise and this is the first time a Ninja Gaiden game is being released on both PS3 and Xbox 360,” Tecmo Koei’s European PR manager Marilena Papacosta tells MCV. “We expect that this move will build on the existing fanbase and draw more people into Ryu Hayabusa’s shadowy world.”

Ninja skills

As well as the new online modes, Ninja Gaiden 3 of course includes a full single-player campaign for gamers to experience. Users will learn more about protagonist Ryu Hayabusa’s past and present, and find out exactly who the man is behind that mask.

Players can perform all manner of ninja abilities in-game including one-hit stealth attacks, slides, powerful charge moves and even wall climbing techniques.

The game is also compatible with the PlayStation Move motion controllers. This allows players to swing the devices to wield Ryu’s sword in order to slice through their enemies.

This all results in an experience that Tecmo Koei says “will truly challenge even the most hardcore players, while still remaining accessible for players new to the Ninja Gaiden franchise.”

Collector’s Edition

A limited edition version of Ninja Gaiden 3 will hit shelves, which includes the game, an official soundtrack, art book, figure and a download code for the Dead or Alive 5 fighting game demo.

Ninja marketing

Tecmo Koei is advertising the game through online, print and retail channels. The publisher says it’s focusing on the concept of unmasking Ninja Gaiden 3’s character in a bid to entice gamers.
