The third instalment in this business simulation series sees players embark on an adventure through the Caribbean during the 17th century.
Originally launched for the PC, Port Royale 3 finally offers console gamers the first historical trading simulation experience.
Players must take on the role of a young captain who is trying to build his fortune and reputation, and users can choose one of two campaigns: adventurer and trader.
Gamers who follow the adventurer path will see themselves leading a navel conquest where they need to gain notoriety through piracy, raids, hunting bounty and conquering cities to build their empire.
The trader mode sees the player using their economic know-how to become a powerful trading tycoon. Managing natural resources is the key to success and players can set up trade routes and build production facilities to further develop their cities.
There’s also a free-play mode that allows the player to combine the adventure and trader options to create a unique scenario. There are also multiplayer modes that allow users to go head-to-head.
While simulation games haven’t always felt streamlined on home console controllers, the radial menu helps make building cities a much smoother experience.
Port Royale 3 is out on both Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 7th.
