What better way to add something new to the long-running Sims franchise than including pop starlet Katy Perry?
EA has seen incredible success with The Sims. Much loved by casual players, females, non-gamers, children and more across the world, over 150m units in the series have been sold worldwide. Even today, Sims 3 add-ons dominate the PC charts. So it hasn’t lost any of its shine.
Previous games in the franchise have featured recordings of real life musicians singing in ‘Simlish’, the game’s own language, but this is the first time an artist has featured so heavily in the marketing of a product – and indeed in the game itself.
Buyers of The Sims 3: Showtime Collector’s Edition will receive Katy Perry-themed packaging, extra in-game content featuring the pop singer and a poster of her. The in-game collector’s bonuses include a new venue, Katy Perry hairstyle, guitar and stage props.
The game itself allows consumers to take their own customisable sim characters on a journey to become the next big stage-performing megastar. They can live the dream as a singer, acrobat, magician or DJ.
Furthermore, Showtime contains new traits and ‘Lifetime Wishes’, giving gamers the opportunity to create unique stories and lives for their sims. There’s also a new Starlight Shores location where users can build their own custom stages. Players can share their sims’ stories with friends using the in-game messaging, newsfeed, live updates and wishlist systems.
The introduction of Katy Perry into The Sims is one that will especially resonate with a young and mainstream crowd.
