Destiny: Rise of Iron dated, will skip PS3 and Xbox 360

As was rumoured, Rise of Iron will be the big Destiny in the latter half of the year.

The content was named in a report last month claiming that Destiny 2 had been pushed back to 2017.

The Bungie website itself confirmed the Rise of Iron name ahead of the official reveal today, as well as its release date – September 20th.

A further slip on the Xbox store confirmed some further details. Rise of Iron is set in an area called the Plaguelands, where mutants scavenge the tombs of the Golden Age. It will include new story missions exploring the fate of The Iron lords, a new raid and new strike, as well as new enemies, gear and a Light level cap increase.

The bit of information that will be of particular interest to some is that it seems that Rise of Iron is only coming to PS4 and Xbox One, leaving PS3 and Xbox 360 players out in the cold. Those who want to make the jump to next-gen to continue their adventure will be able to migrate their character, however.

Some content for the game has already skipped last-gen, but Rise of Iron marks by far the most significant update yet to skip legacy hardware.
