OPM are delighted to be working with the largest video game developer in Atlantic Canada. They have shipped 40 titles across multiple platforms selling more than 21 million units. They partner with the biggest names in the industry and are currently developing games across all current and upcoming gaming platforms. They are seeking a Lead UI Artist/Designer to be responsible for all aspects of the company’s UI systems and Graphic Design.

The successful candidate will drive the design and creation of user interfaces, pitch presentations, company promotional material and any other graphical design item. You will lead the UI Art Team, working with both Engineering and Design teams to ensure that UI artwork meets requirements on all sides.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Own the UI and UX of all game projects and drive the creation of all graphical UI assets within the company.
• Oversee the UX design process to achieve maximum clarity and approachability.
• Work with designers, producers and software engineers to create a visually stunning and functional User Experience.
• Demonstrate a high level of creativity in approaching work while remaining within constraints of corporate and brand identities.
• Present to publisher graphic art prototypes and developed work.
• Interface with publisher to ensure the studio adheres to publisher guidelines and expectations.
• Support the Producer in ensuring the smooth progress of the project by providing his/her artistic expertise.
• Manage & mentor all UI Artists on a day to day basis; conduct milestone and annual performance assessments.
• Ensure company art practices are followed amongst the UI Team.
• Create an open, creative, learning environment where team members are encouraged to generate and follow through on their ideas.
• Identify problematic situations before they occur and offer solutions.
• Organize and conduct meetings with the art team on a regular basis to resolve artistic and/or technical issues.
• Create visually captivating pitch and concept presentations for delivery to publishers.
• Take responsibility for the processing and delivery of all art assets into the build environment.
• Strategically contribute to the investigation of techniques and methodologies to continually improve the quality and productivity of UI art resources.
• Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors of high quality visual assets.
• Contribute to the creative, feature, and technical documentation process.
• Assist with resourcing and scheduling the project in liaison with the Producer and Production Manager.
• Validate effort estimates, assumptions, scope, and creative design to assist in developing project schedules.
• Create and maintain project and company style guides.

Skills/Experience Required
• Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and a strong proficiency with Flash, Action Scripts and Scaleform
• Comprehensive understanding of Animation, Motion Graphics
• A proven understanding of icon design, typography, colour theory and design and creation of menu systems
• Experience leading a group of UI Artists within a games studio
• Ability to prototype and then rapidly iterate UI components and UX flows
• Ability to work constructively both with senior stakeholders and direct reports
• Ability to work within a style including a style set by a Brand Identity
• Solid understanding of asset management practices
• Ability to multitask and solve problems
• Excellent communication skills
• A passion for games
• University or College degree in a related art field
