Opera software has confirmed that its web browser for forthcoming Nintendo console Wii will be available as a free promotional download until June 2007.

The browser will be available through the Wii Shop Channel for a limited time, but from July 2007 it will be online to purchase in exchange for Wii points. The price has yet to be revealed.

The browser has been specially developed for use with Nintendo’s unique control system, and will support Flash, ALAX-based content (such as Google Maps) and is similar in functionality to the Opera 9 browser.

Nintendo Wii launches in Europe on December 8th for £179.99.
