400,000 Wii consoles for Japan

Whilst Nintendo has so far refused to clarify how many Wii consoles will be making their way to Europe for December 8th, it has stated that 400,000 units will be available for the Japanese launch on December 2nd.

The figure, reported this morning by the BBC, is significantly more than the 88,000 PS3 units Sony was able to provide for the Japanese launch of its machine last weekend.

However, no stock numbers have yet been confirmed for the US launch ahead of the biggest weekend in the US games industry this year, with PS3 hitting shops tomorrow and Wii on Sunday.

Sony has predicted that 400,000 PS3 consoles will be available at US retail tomorrow, though reportedly tight allocations at major chains and open expressions of doubt from some analysts have cast doubt on these figures.

Nintendo has stated that it will have four million Wii hardware units available across all three global territories for the launch of its new console, the European leg of which begins on December 8th. The European launch of PS3 has been delayed until March 2007.
