Wii web browser arrives December 22nd

Following last night’s launch of the Wii Weather Forecast Channel, Nintendo has confirmed that a trial version of Wii’s web browsing Opera software will be available to European gamers from December 22nd.

The final version of the software will be made available in March, and will be free until June, after which it will cost 500 Wii Points, around £3.50.

Wii users hooked up wirelessly to the internet are able to access a range of features including online retro games shopping mall The Virtual Console and, at some stage in the future, online multiplayer gaming.

A further News Channel will be activated in January.

“In addition to providing innovative and exciting new ways to play, Wii also offers further services and entertainment for all the family,” Nintendo Europe’s marketing director Laurent Fischer said. “This newest Wii Menu Channel is just the latest example of how we are doing this. Wii is the perfect console for everyone to enjoy and this is being reflected in the phenomenal sales across Europe.”
