Big hits and wider portfolio takes THQ to new heights

THQ is this week celebrating its best ever performance in the UK, having risen to the number two slot by both units and value during 2006.

The publisher had targeted a stellar year on the back of a powerful new portfolio that added new brands to its already broad line-up. Annual figures from ChartTrack show that THQ was second only to Electronic Arts from January to December, scoring an 8.3 per cent market share by units and 7.9 per cent share by value.

Having moved up from ninth position in 2003, THQ is now the fastest growing top ten third party publisher in the UK. And sales growth is further proven by the fact that in 2005 THQ also achieved the number two position in unit sales, but was only number four in value.
“2006 was a brilliant year for THQ and a sign of what’s to come in the future,” UK managing director Roy Campbell told MCV.

“We delivered a winning combination of original and licensed properties. In addition to the success of Cars and SmackDown Vs. Raw 2007, we enjoyed great success with a number of original, internally developed titles, such as Saints Row and Company Of Heroes.
“2007 will be another really exciting year for THQ. We’re looking forwards to bringing even more original titles to market from our growing base of exciting internal studios.”
