Capcom ends EA chart dominance

Xbox 360 exclusive Lost Planet has shot straight in at number one in the ChartTrack all-formats chart, with Wii title Wario Ware: Smooth Moves claiming the number two spot as FIFA's chart stranglehold comes to an end.

EA’s mega-selling football franchise saw a sales drop of 59 per cent this past week, the biggest drop-off of any top 40 game, thanks to several bargain bucket retail price promotions coming to an end.

Capcom celebrates its second number one in a matter of months after fellow Xbox 360 exclusive Dead Rising swept to the top spot in early September last year.

It was also a good week for Nintendo, which saw Wii exclusive WarioWare debut at number two and critics’ favourite Zelda: Twilight Princess leaping up from 36 last week to number eight this time around.

Despite missing out on the top spot, EA still claimed three of the top ten titles this week. Former chart king FIFA ’07 drops to number three, while multi-format street racer Need for Speed: Carbon falls three places to number five and The Sims 2: Pets moves down four places to number seven.

Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 6 holds firm at four having inhabited the top ten since its release. Rockstar’s Canis Canem Edit falls one spot to sixth place but continues to reap the rewards of some extreme pricing promotions at retail.

Completing the top ten this week are shooters Gears of War (Microsoft) and Call of Duty 3 (Activision), which claim ninth and tenth place respectively.

An honourable mention must also go to new entry World Snooker Championship 2007 at number 17, while thanks to a boost in Wii hardware stock Wii Play and Red Steel re-enter the top 40 at 19 and 34 respectively.
