ChartTrack descends on Denmark

Having established itself as a key player in the UK and Ireland’s entertainment industry, ChartTrack is going to do the same in the rapidly expanding Danish market, MCV can reveal.

Having received the support of the major entertainment retail chains GAME, B.O. Bøger, Blockbuster, Co-op, Dansk Supermarked, EB Games, F Group and Merlin, ChartTrack has revealed that it plans to monitor retail sales of games software and hardware in the Scandanvian territory.

“We’re delighted to launch our new service in Denmark and we should like to thank the publishers and retailers for their enthusiastic support in getting the project off the ground,” said managing director of ChartTrack John Pinder. “We aim to develop a top quality service for the whole games industry in Denmark, built on our experience in the UK and Ireland.”

After a six month trial, the first official weekly charts were revealed on January 9th. EA’s Need for Speed: Carbon claimed the honour of being Denmark’s first official ChartTrack number one. US publisher THQ’s movie franchise Cars (known as Biler in Denmark) was also declared top selling budget title.

“We are fully aware of Chart-Track’s excellent reputation in the UK and look forward to working with them in Denmark,” said Peter Weile, Chairman of Multi Medie Foreningen and the managing director of Ubisoft Nordic. “For the first time we now have access to independent market retail data and we see this as a major step forward for the Danish games industry.”
