Blizzard WoWs the charts

It has been dominating the MMORPG community for quite some time, and now Blizzard’s world-conquering World of Warcraft is dominating the charts with official expansion pack The Burning Crusade entering the ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 at number one.

The game only narrowly misses out on claiming the record of fastest selling PC game of all time, according to ChartTrack, falling a mere 1,000 units short of Championship Manager 04’s debut in 2003.

However, the add-on does best the performance of the original World of Warcraft by some considerable margin, around 4-1, whilst the original itself enjoys a sales lift, jumping from number 40 to number 28.

Elsewhere in the chart, last week’s first and second best-sellers, Capcom’s Xbox 360 shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and Nintendo’s Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, hold on to become this week’s second and third.

The UK’s favourite football duo also slip one place each, with EA’s FIFA 07 and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 6 occupying fourth and fifth respectively.

Sega’s World Snooker Championship 2007 enjoys a very strong second week in the charts, jumping from number 17 to number six, whilst EA’s Need for Speed: Carbon occupies its lowest position since its release last year, settling for seventh place.

The remainder of the top ten comprises Activision’s Call of Duty 3 in eighth, EA’s The Sims 2 Pets in ninth and Rockstar’s Canis Canem Edit at number ten.

There’s also a noticeable presence from a number of budget PC titles thanks to some aggressive price-cutting on the High Street. Grab It’s Sega Rally claims 27th whilst GSP duo Puppy Luv and Sonic Mega Collection Plus claim 31st and 36th respectively.
