Vivendi sales rocket thanks to WoW

All-conquering MMO World of Warcraft has boosted Vivendi’s 2006 financial report, with sales in the games divison up 25 per cent year-on-year.

Next-gen.biz reports that annual sales reached €804 million within Vivendi’s games division during the last financial year, largely thanks to World of Warcraft’s eight million-and-rising subscribers.

The WoW expansion pack, The Burning Crusade, launched in mid-January this year, selling a total of 2.4 million copies at retail in its first 24 hours of availability.

Scarface: The World is Yours, Ice Age 2, The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, Eragon and F.E.A.R. for Xbox 360 were also highlighted a good performers.

Vivendi Games’ fourth quarter sales came to €326m, up 33 percent compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile the Vivendi group as a whole – which includes music, TV and telecommunications services – reported revenues of €20.1 billion, a small rise of three per cent.
