
Nintendo has cleared up at the Game.co.uk Best of the Year Awards 2006, winning five of the 12 categories on offer.
Voted for by GAME staff members, Nintendo was victorious in the Originality, Hardware, Developer, Publisher and Technical Achievement categories, with its new Wii console receiving high praise from gamers.
Other notable winners included Microsoft, whose Gears of War scooped two awards, whilst Square Enix, Capcom, Rockstar, Sony and LucasArts were also category winners.

Game of the Year – Shadow of the Colossus (Sony)
People’s Choice – Gears of War (Microsoft)
Best Multiplayer – Gears of War (Microsoft)
Use of a Licence – Lego Star Wars 2 (LucasArts)
Best for Originality – Wii (Nintendo)
Best Hardware – DS Lite (Nintendo)
Best Story – Canis Canem Edit (Rockstar)
Best Developer - Nintendo
Best Publisher - Nintendo
Technical Achievement – Wii (Nintendo)
Artistic Achievement – Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King (Square Enix)
Best Portable Game – Phoenix Wright (Capcom)
Meanwhile, ahead of Valentine’s Day next week, GAME has launched a new promotion on its website that allows gamers enjoy a games-fuelled day of passion.

Those logging on to www.game.co.uk will be able to send audio kisses to their beloved, along with a £5 off voucher that can be spent on the GAME website. As well as boasting a gift selector for those struggling to choose a suitable title for their other half, users will also be able to enter a competition to win a ‘His & Hers’ pink and black DS set, along with two copies of Mario Kart DS.
