Profits drop at Sega Sammy

Whilst insisting its video game business is doing well, Sega’s parent company Sega Sammy has announced a 23 per cent drop in profits for the nine months ending December 31st.

Net income dropped from EUR 406 million to EUR 317 million compared to the same nine months in the year before. Sales in the period dropped almost four per cent to EUR 2.6 billion.

The company has not altered its full financial year net profit forecast, which remains at EUR 385.2 million with anticipated group sales of EUR 3.7 billion.

The drop was blamed of poor sales of its pachinko arcade machines – a popular Japanese game involving steel balls dropping down a board of metal pegs.
