Life left in the ‘Cube after all?

Yesterday's claims that the GameCube is dead have been denied by Nintendo Japan.

Spong reports that following yesterday’s claim from Nintendo of America’s vice president of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan that the firm has ended production of GameCube hardware, officials from Nintendo Japan have now denied the news.

A Nintendo UK representative has today stated:

”We are still making GameCubes. We’ll always make product if there is demand. We hadn’t heard any news either, so we contacted Japan. This denial comes from Japan.”

Some sources have claimed that Wii’s backwards compatibility functionality was the driving force behind a renewed demand for GameCube software, but official UK sales data shows no evidence of this, with the format still struggling in the UK market.
